SAINT PETER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, located in Belleville, New Jersey,
began as a small portable school in 1857, with Mr. Patrick Smith serving as
headmaster. Upon his death in 1877, the pastor, Father Dornin, invited the
Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, from Convent Station, New Jersey, to take
charge. In 1890, Father Dornin had a parochial school erected on the
corner of Bridge and William Streets, thus establishing the first parish owned
school. The Most Reverend Bishop Thomas Joseph Walsh dedicated the
Cornerstone of the current school building, located on William Street, on
October 4, 1936. Saint Peter School focuses its attention on two primary
goals: To foster Catholic Education and to continue to provide God's children
with a well-rounded education in a family-like atmosphere. Our parish
school is truly an integral part of family life. Within the partnership of
home, school, and parish, the responsibility for providing our children with
personal, moral, and civic values is a priority. Saint Peter School
flourishes in an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation, for which we are
truly grateful.
Our World Wide Web address is currently under construction and due to be
completed by the fall of 2001.
MISSION STATEMENT
We who serve as Administrators and Educators in Saint Peter Elementary School, are aware of the unique value and goodness of all we serve. We are called to be followers of Jesus, our Teacher and Servant, and are challenged to continue His Mission using the Gospel Values as our lesson plans for life.
We strive to accomplish this by
- providing an atmosphere of loving care that assists all in recognizing their unique gifts for service in the church, the family and community.
- proclaiming and fostering Gospel Values in all academic, social and athletic activities.
- preparing one another for our journey to the KINGDOM where we will create a joyful noise unto the Lord.
In this information age, ever changing technology is a powerful tool that will restructure education thus enabling people to continue to learn throughout their lives.
The administration, faculty and staff are also committed to creating a learning environment that will provide staff and students with technological tools and applications that will enable them to:
- become responsible for their own learning.
- focus on identified learning outcomes.
- engage in collaborative outcomes.
- apply learning to real life situations and experiences.
- enhance critical thinking, problem solving and decision skills.
